Women and Constitutional Rights Workshop: ” The Interim Constitution of 2005 as an Example”

On 30 March,2024 Justice Africa organized a workshop under the theme: – women and Constitutional Rights “The Interim Constitution of 2005 as an Example.” The workshop took place at Forest Cottages Hotel Hall, Kampala, Uganda, with support from American Bar Association (ABA).

First paper discussed the, “Politics and Political Participation,” represented by Ms. Wenni Omer. It was about how far the state and society play huge role in limiting the political participation of Sudanese women. The discussion raised up several opinions and ideas which could enhance effectively the role of women in politics and society   participation, such as feminist governance. which is needed to create specific mechanism to supports women’s related issues comprehensively. Also, it important to consider the cost of these arrangements to grantee a safe and encouraging environment.

Second paper, presented by the lawyer Ms, Noon Kashkosh, focused on “women’s participation in the constitution-making Process. She referred to the Interim Constitution 2005 and the Constitutional Declaration – 2019 experience. She also highlighted the importance of having special women’s committees within the Constitutional Commission.   and the importance to develop a paper addressing the issue of women’s rights as that will be more effective and represented women issues comprehensively.

 15 activists, participated in the workshop concerning to the geographical diversity and the issues have been discussed, such as religious minority and women with special needs matters.
